Hands-on Training: The “Keys” to the Job

Lead Instructor: Firefighter Chris Minichiello, Fire Department of New York

This class is focused on putting the tools in the hands of the students and will benefit all ranges of experience. It will cover conventionalforcible entryon inward and outward doors with varying degrees of difficulty to challenge allfirefighters. Students will also force real metal doors with slide bolts and drop bars engaged, learning the multiple ways to defeat these locks. In addition, every student will have saw time cutting roll-down gates and garage doors and learn the proper size-up and skills to be successful when faced with these garage/overhead doors. Finally, students will be taught thethrough-the-lockmethod of forcible entry with stations where they can pull locks and manipulate the mechanisms and force doors in restricted space and limited to zero visibility.
