A Michiganfirefighterrecruit has died after falling ill duringtrainingover the weekend.
According to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), Spring Arbor Township Fire Department Firefighter Trainee Charles C. Adams, Jr. , 47, was participating in search andrescuetraining at the local fire academy.
Adams became ill and momentarily lost consciousness. Displaying heart attack-like symptoms, he was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Firefighter Trainee Adams passed away at the hospital later that evening from a cause yet to be determined.
Adams was the first firefighterfatalityreported to the USFA in 2016.
