Kentucky Firefighter Killed After Being Struck at Van Fire Scene

One firefighter was killed and another injured after they were struck while operating at the scene of a van fire on a highway in Kentucky.

WHAS11 reports (http://bit.ly/1sffMUm) that the GlendaleVolunteerFire Department was working a van fire on Interstate 65 south when one firefighters was hit and killed by a semi.

A second firefighter was seriously injured and airlifted to an area hospital.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Jonathan French, 25, when a semi tractor-trailer struck them and their fire apparatus while they were operating at the scene of a motor vehicle fire on Interstate 65. According to reports, Firefighter Lisa French, Jonathan’s mother, was flown to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigation into the fatal incident continues by authorities.

It was the secondfirefighter fatalityin as many days for the U.S. fire service, aftera New Carlisls (IN) firefighter died Tuesday nightin a building collapse.
