Aging Water System Hampered Firefighters at Illinois Fire

A catastrophichydrantfailure complicated firefighting operations for crews fighting a commercial fire Monday night in Carterville, Illinois.

A report fromThe Southern(http://bit.ly/X3tVVN) detailed how, even without the downtownhydrantfailing, the water supply still might not have been sufficient. The city’s aging water system is updating its aging water system, but the work is not complete.

Firefighters were forced to rely on tanker trucks shuttling water to portable reservoirs to fight the fire.

No one was injured in the multi-alarm fire, which occurred at the Corbell Telephone & Electronics building required multiple calls to mutual aid companies.
