An expert’s review of reported Los Angeles (CA) Fire Department (LAFD) response times said the data is suspect because of problems with the software used to prepare the numbers, according to theLos Angeles Times(http://lat.ms/IWjoTE).

Expert statistician Jeffrey Godown’s report called on the fire department to stop using the software until the problem is resolved and recommended an overhaul of the unit that analyzes statistics.

The LAFD has been facing criticism since March, when officials admitted they for years they had been disseminating numbers that made it seem as if firefighters were getting to emergencies faster than they actually were.

Officials then used a different process to arrive at new numbers, but Godown’s review show down the revised numbers, saying it was full of errors.
