A firefighter was killed and another was injured Tuesday afternoon after the fire truck they were in overturned in Franklin County (NC), reports wral.com (http://bit.ly/1wBjpsV)
Franklin County Sheriff Jerry Jones said the tanker truck was headed to a call in Louisburg’s Lake Royale community around 5 p.m. when it overturned on nearby Sykes Road and hit a culvert.
The driver died, and the passenger was being treated at a local hospital, Jones said.
Their names have not been released, and further details weren’t immediately available.
Update:According to the U.S. Fire Administration, while en route to a fire alarm, Firefighter John Derek Gupton of the Justice Rural Volunteer Fire Department, lost control of the 2,500-gallon fire tanker he was operating when theapparatusleft the roadway to the right, hit a ditch culvert and overturned. Gupton passed away from injuries sustained in the accident. An additional firefighter who was a passenger in the apparatus was treated for injuries and released from a local hospital.
