Mobile (AL) Firefighter Injured in Apartment Fire

A firefighter was treated for a shoulder injury Monday after he was hurt while moving something in a burning apartment, reports al.cm.

Around 12:10 p.m., firefighters were called to the Maison DeVille Apartments on Berwyn Drive South, said MFRD spokesman Steve Huffman. Four fire engines, one truck, two rescue vehicles and a district chief responded to the call.

Heavy smoke was coming from an upstairs apartment at the complex when firefighters arrived at the scene. They were met with “heavy fire,” as soon as they entered the residence, Huffman said.

“The occupant was in the process of moving and there was very little furniture inside the apartment,” he said.

The resident told firefighters a friend was staying at the apartment, however, that person was not on the scene when authorities arrived, according to a release from MFRD.

One firefighter was injured while officials battled the flames. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, although Huffman said he is expected to fully recover.
