Apparatus positioningis paramount at the fire scene. Company officers andapparatusdrivers must slow down as they enter the block and size up the proper location to place the units. Once the apparatus’s brake is set, it’s likely to remain in that spot.
Collectibles aren’t just for show. We continually find this drill to be a great one for members/personnel of all experience and ranks. Doing this drill in “table-top” format uses no fuel, places no wear and tear on the apparatus and keeps the members ‘at the ready’ in quarters.
This drill works great for a senior driver to work with newer personnel that are beginning their driving/operating process. Create buildings that are in your response district to hone in on operational strategies and tactics. Personnel can cover the what’s, why’s, when’s, and how’s of apparatus positioning.
Although slightly unorthodox, this “children’s” approach to table top apparatus positioning yields great benefits.
