NJ Volunteer Fire Chief Killed in Motorcycle Crash, Officials Say

A veteran firefighter and volunteer fire department chief was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday in South Brunswick, officials said.

Christopher Acs was driving a motorcycle north on Georges Road when his vehicle was hit by a Honda Odyssey minivan, near Summerfield Boulevard, around 3:20 p.m., according to a statement from theMiddlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Acs, of Jamesburg, died at the scene of the crash.

“He was a devoted, dedicated member who worked tirelessly on the apparatus and the building throughout the years. His efforts on behalf of the Borough of Helmetta will be sorely missed,” the departmentsaid in a poston social media.

Mayor Christopher Slavicek said flags would be flown at half-staff for Acs.

“心heavy in Helmetta as our community mourns the passing of our current Helmetta Fire Department Chief, Chris Acs,” themayor said in a statement. “Appreciation is bestowed upon his selfless dedication to our community and for his service to others. On behalf of the Borough of Helmetta, Mayor and Administration, sentiments of deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to his family, friends, and brothers and sisters of the Helmetta Fire Department and supporting agencies at this most difficult and sad time.”
