The Protective Department of Worcester, Mass., was organized in 1875, and from the day of its organization it has been successfully active in preventing and extinguishing fires and protecting lives. The 38th Annual Report for the year ending June 30, 1913, gives many details of the department’s activity during the year. The total number of calls responded to were 1,297, an increase over the previous year of 115. Total insurance on buildings and churches $4,898,270. Total insurance loss $198,335.51. Thirteen persons lost their lives in the fires during the year. There were 8 supposed incendiary fires in 1912.
