THE following list includes fires of $25,000 loss and over in the United States and Canada, for the periods designated in the headings. These figures, compiled from telegraphic reports, are based on estimates made at the time, and are subject to later investigation and consequent revision. Taken as a whole, however, they give an approximately correct view of the losses incurred. The figures represent loss in thousands.

Small Blaze Ties Up Elevated Railroad Although the fire itself was of minor importance as far as actual damage was concerued, the blaze crippled service on the Sixth Avenue Elevated Line in New York City, and delayed thousands of workers in the down town section. The fire started in an elevated railway car near Cortland street and even hampered service on the street car lines below. Luckily it did not interfere with the subway tracks just underneath. Firemen are here shown fighting the flames in the wooden car, caused by a short circuit. Firemen Do Good Work At Albany Hospital Fire Shortly after fire broken out in an upper floor of the Memorial Hospital, Albany, N. Y., firemen carried two hundred patients safely down the ladders, fire escapes and elevators. It required a great deal of tact to calm the fears of sick or bed-ridden inmates.
