WELLS
Elisha Gregory, of New York has just completed a well on Hoffman Island 500 feet deep. He also drilled a well for the Union Hill, N. J. silk manufactory 1,200 feet through trap rock and one for the Young Men’s Christian Association, Eighth avenue and Fifty sixth street. New York City, 1,000 feet deep. In addition to these, Mr. Gregory has contracts for a number of wells to be completed this spring.
1 hree wells, each 420 feet deep, have recently been bored on the grounds of the Memphis, Tenn., Light and Power Company. Of these the first two bored yield culd water, while the third flows a strong stream of water at a temperature of ninety degrees. The Artesian Water Company, of the city, whose wells are bored to exactly the same stratum, flow cold water only.
