WELLS
The artesian well that is to supply the new almshouse at Danbury, Conn., with water, has been completed. The bore reached a depth of 175 feet and was successful beyond the expectations of the selectmen. The flow of water is about thirty-five gallons a minute. The water will be pumped into two hugh tanks in the attic of the almshouse. Each tank has a capacity of 5,000 gallons. The well was begun about two months ago. Water was struck at a depth of seventy-five feet, but the flow was not sufficient to meet the requirements of the institution, and the drive was continued. The manager of the work, savs that its purity is absolute, and for clearness and softness it cannot be excelled.
1). H. Browning, commissioner of Indian affairs at Washington will receive bids until April to, 1 p. m., for drilling artesian wells on the Fine Ridge, Rosebud and Standing Rock Indian reservations in South Dakota.
