WATER RATES

The borough of Swarthmore, Pa., has entered complaint before the Public Service Commission against the Springfield Consolidated Water Company rates for fire hydrants, the objections being similar to those filed by other municipalities in the company’s territory. It is alleged the price to the borough is advanced 725 per cent.

The Board of Public Utilities of New Jersey has refused to reopen the matter of the reasonableness of rates charged by the Hackensack Water Company for private fire lines at Hasbrouck Heights. The commission affirmed the rates adopted by the board for the company to charge, in April of 1917, and said that no eviednee had been advanced whiqh would indicate that they are unjust or discriminatory, or that any error was made in fixing them.
