Water Meter Experience.

Water Meter Experience.

The practical utility of a meter system as applied to controlling distribution of water is aptly illustrated in the annual report of the Fall River water-worksdepartment. The superintendent says “the use of water meters is increasing, and that their use causes much annoyance to the department, as parties fail to look after leaks, etc., and annoy the department officials by asking for a rebate on their bills equal to the amount wasted or not used.” In other words, the water consumer says we have not time, disposition or inclination to inspect and repair leaky fixtures, and we suffer the water to waste, hoping that the authorities will condone the neglect and pay for it, instead of we, the people, that are responsible for it.

The superintendent and his officials can better afford to submit to this kind of annoyance rather than be annoyed by the fact that in the absence of a meter system it would cost a great deal of lime in reports of house inspection, of leaks and of temporary repairs in order to suppress waste of water.
