Warwood Well Protected
Warwood, W. Va., is well protected against fire, both by its volunteer fire department, whose reputation sands very high and by the abundance of its water supply. For the latter have been built two reservoirs, each on a fairly high hill, whereby a good pressure is secured, and each with a capacity more than sufficient for all that is needed. The fire department consists of three companies, the total value of whose equipment is over $3,000. Each has also a well appointed house, the value of the three, including that of the ground, being about $4,000. Each company works under a State charter, and each has secured its equipment by its own individual efforts and independently of any municipal financial assistance. Loveland company No. 1. in South Warwood was organized about five years ago. Its membership is 85, and its president is J. W . Weiler. Its equipment is as follows: 60-gallon, single tank chemical wagon and two hand chemicals; two hose reels, with 1,000 feet of hose; one ladder truck, with 100 feet of ladders. Center Warwood company, in the business center of the town was also organized about five years ago. Its membership is 80; its president is August Wasmuth. Its equipment is as under: 60-gallon, single tank chemical wagon, 70 gallon double tank chemical wagon and two hand chemical extinguishers; hose reel, with 500 feet of hose; small ladder truck, with 100 feet of ladders. Reliance fire company No. 3, is in North Warwood. and has 80 members. It was organized quite recently. Its president is If. C. Fnhr. Its equipment consists of the following: 60-gallon double tank chemical wagon, to which will soon be added a hose reel and hook and ladder truck. The hose houses serve the members as clubs, but while harmless games are permitted, drinking and gambling in any shape, are strictly forbidden —a rule which is very strictly enforced. The very best citizens are members of the companies, and give them both moral and financial support.
