Upper Montgomery County Fire Control Center

Montgomery County (Maryland) Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire Protection, in cooperation with the Division of Civil Defense and the volunteer fire departments of Damascus, Gaithersburg-Washington Grove, Hyattstown, Rockville and Upper Montgomery County, has established and now placed in operation a fire report and control center, where all fire and emergency calls for the entire upcounty area are received and referred to the applicable fire departments.

The control center, which is located at the Lateral Roads Department Building, Washington Grove, Md., contains a sixty position PBX board with direct telephone lines to each of the five upcounty fire departments, Montgomery County Police at Rockville, and the Silver Spring Fire Board, and a 250-watt radio transmitter operating on the county fire department frequency. The radio transmitter provides communication for the 12 pumpers, 3 ambulances, 1 squad and 1 chief’s car in the uppercounty fire departments and for 3 cars in the county fire marshal’s office.
