Two Platoon Bill in Massachusetts

The Committee on Cities of the Massachusetts State Legislature has reported favorably on a bill presented by the State Firemen’s Association and the Russell Firemen’s Club of Boston to have the two platoon system adopted in the twelve cities of the state of 50,000 and more population. The committee has attached to the bill the referendum which provides that the cities may, on petition of the 15 per cent of the voters of Boston and 25 per cent, of the voters of other cities, vote on the question of its adoption. The bill applies to the cities of Boston, Brockton, Cambridge, Fall River. Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, New Bedford. Somerville, Springfield and Worcester. The city councils of these and all other cities in the state now have the power to install the two-platoon systems in their fire departments. The bill comes up for action in a short time.
