ONE more man, a merchant of Sidney, Neb., has learned to his cost the imprudence of storing lime where water can get at it. He had a number of barrels in the lower part of his store. A heavy rain filled the streets and the water overflowed into the building. The lime was slacked, a fire started and the building and its contents, with an adjoining structure, were destroyed.
FIREMEN generally are warned by Chief Hendrick of New Haven, in a letter printed in another column, against a person who has been working upon the sympathies of members of Eastern departments, by pretending to have been disabled in the service, and has carried away more or less of their hard-earned money. He should be watched for, and properly dealt with when caught.
