ANOTHER letter from Trenton, N. J., relative to the issues brought forward in connection with the preparation of bids for the Fire Alarm Telegraph has been received, but as the Company whose interests were being championed in the face of opposition in no way apparent has signified its confidence in the honor of the Committee it is difficult to comprehend why anything more anent the subject should be said.
AN effort is being made by a number of the more intelligent Firemen of Northern Indiana to form a State Association, or rather a part-State Association, as it is only intended to incorporate within the organization the Firemen of the North half of the State. A meeting for the purpose of organization has been called, and the preliminaries being in the hands of capable and energetic men, the prospects are that the project will be successful. The projectors of the enterprise are imbued with a spirit of progressiveness, and recognizing the advantages to be derived from an annual meeting of Firemen, where discussions of great value are naturally indulged in, they are thoroughly in earnest and are bound to see their pet scheme a finality. Considerable apathy on the part of some of the Departments is encountered, but this will be in time overcome and changed to energy. Northern Indiana is a perfect hot-bed of active Volunteer Firemen, and if any division of the country should have an Association, that should. Local jealousies may, perhaps, at first show themselves, but in the end harmony is pretty sure to reign. The tournaments that would be held under the Association’s auspices would be the scenes of severely-contested races.
