TOPICS OF THE DAY
THE Executive Committee of the Massachusetts State Firemen’s Association met at Captain Damrell’s office in Boston, Wednesday afternoon, and unanimously voted to accept New Bedford’s invitation to hold the next Convention at the City Hall there on October 9, 10 and 11.
MOHAWK Hose Company No. 1 of Long Island City, (upper district) elected officers on Monday night for the ensuing year as follows: Foreman, P. F. Brown; Assistant Foreman, B. Bannon ; Financial Secretary, J. L. Manning; Recording Secretary, W. McNally; Treasurer, J. F. Burns. This is one of the most enterprising hose companies in the city, and is in a thoroughly live condition. On the same evening Tiger Hose Company No. 8, a lively rival of the “Mohawks,” had a very pleasant social gathering at their house, the occasion being the presentation to the recently elected Assistant Chief, Joseph T. Allen, a member of the company, of an elaborately-chased and engraved silver trumpet and fire hat. Both the articles were made by Anderson & Jones, and are fair specimens of the handiwork of that manufacturing firm.
