TO IMPROVE WATER SUPPLY AT SAVANNAH.
It has been suggested to improve the water supply in the business district of Savannah,7 Ga., by laying special mains, the Holland electric system pow used in Philadelphia to be employed. The idea is to install a high-pressure pump at the waterside, immediately at the back of fire headquarters, and to lay an independent line of wrought iron pipe capable of withstanding high pressure. Such a plant would not be costly. A steam connection could be made to the pump from the electric light plant next to fire headquarters, and within two minutes after an alarm was sounded a pressure from too lbs. to 120 lbs could be had at any point in the business section of the city.
