Those Who Have Passed On
Amid the hurly-burly of our labors it is profitable to pause for a moment and consider those who have reached their ultimate rest and passed on to better things. It would seem that the Grim Reaper has been especially busy during the past year in removing from among us the flower of the water supply and fire-fighting professions.
Among water works men may be mentioned especially the loss of the “Grand Old Man” of the profession, John M. Diven, in the early days of this year; Prof. George C. Whipple, one of the formost authorities on water purification, on November 27; genial and lovable “Johnny” Reagan, who served the Water Works Manufacturers’ Association so well and faithfully as chairman of its exhibits and entertainment committees, on November 1; Frederic I. Winslow, treasurer of the N. E. W. W. A., who died on February 21, and Willard Kent, secretary of the same association from 1899 to 1920.
