THE WATER TOWER.
We have frequently spoken in high terms of the water tower, which has been in service in this city for nearly two years. It was an experiment, and placed in this Department on trial. Having proved its value, the Commissioners called upon Chief Bates for a report regarding it, which report is as follows. After receiving it, the Commissioners asked authority from the City Council to buy it at the price named by Mr. Greenleaf, the proprietor, $4000, which authority was granted. The report of Chief Bates shows that we have not over estimated the value of this new fire extinguishing appliance.
