纽约部分会议。

的好处是来自meeti频繁ng together of water works men and the free and exhaustive discussion of the problems that are continually arising for solution is again illustrated in the report published in another column of the meeting of the New York section, American Water Works Association. Much of the discussion naturally centered around the experiences of the members in the present and long-to-be-remembered winter, with its unprecedentedly cold weather. An interesting experience, as related by F. T. Kemble, secretary of the New Rochelle Water Company, was that of the city of New Rochelle. Over two hundred water services were thawed out by the water department alone, which does not take into consideration the services attended to individually by plumbers. The frost line varied from eight inches to four feet in depth, and in at least one case a depth of four feet, four inches, was attained by the frost. Ninety per cent, of these freeze-ups were thawed out by electricity. Lack of coal and consequent carelessness in keeping up the temperature of buildings caused frequent freezing up of service pipes near the foundations of buildings. The experience of the other speakers were all very similar, and the unprecedented waste of water, through people allowing it to run away in order to avoid freezing of pipes, was particularly emphasized. There is no doubt that the exchange of experiences and plans to remedy conditions that are troublesome and dangerous to the men of the water works will be of great benefit to all who took part and listened to the discussions. Every water works man should join a section of the association and receive the benefit of these meetings.
