McGill ; he served with distinction w ith the old Volunteer, with Engine Co. No. 53, and joined the present force at its organization, being detailed to Engine 13, Wooster Street, In 1870 he was promoted to be an Assistant Foreman, and sent to Engine 27. In 1872 he was again promoted to Foreman, and assigned to Engine 33, then to Hook and Ladder 10, and Engine 30, and in 1S73 he was sent to his present command (No. 32). He has an able Assistnt in the person of Martin Cook, the rank and ile being constituted of such able firemen as Engineer William Browning, Assistant Engineer Albert Hallenbeck, Wm. H. Reilly, James Meehan (formerlyof Volunteer Engine 21), John M. Mahan, Thos. F, Farren, Frederick Coppers, Marcus H. Ebbard, and August Moehrinq.

Their house is in good condition, well furnished, the second floor being set apart for a sitting room. It would be a great benefit if the first floor could be made a little deeper, but the lot will not permit of it. The company, we can only add, has a very creditable standing among the citizens in the neighborhood, being known as the happy family. May they always retain that good name, which we feel confident they will, under so efficient, genial, and good-hearted a leader as Davy Connor.
