Troy, N. Y., has been in festal attire this week, owing to the meeting of the twenty-third annual convention of the New York State Firemen’s Association, which began on Tuesday the 20th, and lasted till Friday the 23rd. It was eight years since the convention was held In the city. The streets were superbly decorated, the " Welcome Arch,” on Broadway between the Government and the Hamilton Green buildings being a distinguished feature. Under it each company, after having been met at the Union depot, was escorted by the committee to the music of the drum and fife.
The president of the association is J. F. Schlosscr of Fisbkill, who has served two years in that office. The first vice-president is W. Y. Ellett of Elmira, a member of the fire department of that city; the second vice-president being.I. R. Mahaney of the Lockport fire department. The treasurer is George H. Scott of Coeksackie, and the secretary Thomas Honohan, chief engineer of the Frankfort fire department. William E.Churchill of Weedsport is the statistician,a practical fireman, who has served in every capacity up tochief engineerof Mohawk fire department. The grand marshal was Patrick Byron, chief of the Troy fire department whom the Exempt Firemen’s Association of that city,President, Eugene L. Demers, under whose care were all the arrangements, appointed to that office. To 1’resident Demers, Charles W. I’eoble, secretary of the Exempts, Chief Byron and Robert G. Peoble it is due that the con. vention was in every way such a success.
