的矮脚鸡DAM.
A large dam for power purposes is now nearly completed at Bantam, Conn. It is situated not far from the outlet of Bantam lake, on the site of the old Bantam falls on the river of the same name—the headquarters of the Shepaug. Bantam lake, hemmed in by the Litchfield hills, is the largest body of water in the State. It is fed by innumerable springs and drains a large territory. Its outlet, Bantam river, flows with great swiftness down a narrow, granite rock gorge, too feet wide, and makes one of the finest waterpowers in the State, The total height of the dam abutments is thirty-two feet, being twenty-nine feet to the crest or spill-way, about seventy feet long and fully five feet wide at the top. The work on the dam has been done by day labor. It has cost less than $9,000; it will be finished in less than eighty days from the time it was started; and at no time has there been an interruption of the generators, although it was necessary to splice the penstock which carries the water to the wheel. A fifty-inch pipe carries the water to a sixty-six-foot head, which generates a force of 750-horsepower. This dam will in no way affect the waters of the lake, although it has been feared by some that it would set the water back tar enough to raise the lake.
