Tetanus Prevention
Dr. Edward J. Sawyer, Surgeon to the Boston Protective Department, reports that he has immunized the entire personnel of the department against tetanus, familiarly known as lock-jaw. He strongly advises this procedure in all Fire Departments because of the unusual exposure of the men to the danger of tetanus infection.
The active immunity engendered by the toxoid of tetanus assures permanent protection against the risks of tetanus, risks which may result from open injuries or from insignificant wounds which might pass unnoticed or untreated.
