Testing Respirators.

The following account of a successful exhibition of Neally’s Smoke Protector we clip from a Baltimore paper, the exhibition having taken place last week :

“An exhibition of Neally's patent mask for the protection of Firemen against smoke when entering burning buildings, took place yesterday afternoon, at the house, corner of Paca and Little Paca streets, in the presence of Chief Engineer Hennick, Assistant Engineers Ellender and Thompson, Messrs. Slingluff and Trott, of the Board of Fire Commissioners, Captain Shaw, of the Salvage Corps, and a number of Firemen. A fire was kindled in the room, composed of crude petroleum, printer’s ink, hay, old junk, etc., and in a few minutes the smoke was dense and stifling. Mr. Neally then donned his apparatus and entered the room, remaining in the smoke for the space of thirty minutes without the least inconvenience. Afterwards Chiefs Hennick and Ellender and Captain Shaw made the trial, and were pleased at the ease with which they could move about in the room. Chief Hennick said he thought the apparatus a most valuable adjunct to the Fire Department.”
