Ten Months’ Fires
The Chronicle Insurance gives the following tables of losses by fire up to the end of October this year:
Here we have a total destruction of property in the ten months amounting to over $84,000,000 and a depletion of insurance capital to the amount of $40,000,000. The increased loss over the figures of 1876 is not far from $25,000,000 and $13,000,000 respectively, which shows that this has not been a good year for the insurance companies, and that the Firemen have been kept pretty busy.
