最高法院任命的委员会the State of New York have made an award of the. value of the plant and property of the Syracuse Water Company, amounting to $855,498. This is the consummation of a litigation between the city of Syracuse and the water company which has occupied their mutual attention for nearly six years.

Perhaps there has been no case of water-works controversy in this State that received such exhaustive treatment on both sides of the question as this one. From beginning to end every phase of waterworks construction and administration experienced was brought out in the case. 1⅜ one respect neither the city of Syracuse nor the Syracuse Water Company have cause to regret any steps that were taken towards getting at the facts involved in the controversy. From a judicial standpoint no point of vantage was overlooked on either side. The Syracuse Water Company were perhaps a little better equipped with engineering expert testimony, which after all will have its weight in spite of new views regarding phases of methods of distribution apart from those now in active operation. In the midst of many improvements in the method of distribution of water it is important to remember that the reservoir system of any plant, no matter what the character of the improvement may be in contemplation for future wants, is always a valuable reserve in time of emergency, which event, though it rarely happens, is most appreciated when it does happen. It is to be hoped that under the new order of things the water commissioners of the city of Syracuse will thoroughly appreciate the situation, and that in their efforts to carry out the new plan of proposed increase of the water supply for the city of Syracuse their efforts will be crowned with success.
