Savannah Assistant Chief in Collision
First Assistant Chief A. J. Toshache and two members of the Savannah, Ga., fire department were injured in a collision recently when the chief’s heavy roadster collided with a touring car. The driver of the car upon hearing the siren was unable to bring his machine to a stop and crossed directly in front of the chief’s car. Roth vehicles were badly damaged, the chief’s car turning over three times and pinning all its occupants underneath. Policemen and citizens raised the heavy roadster of the chief, pulling the injured men from beneath. Chief Toshache escaped with a broken rib and broken wrist. The firemen were badly crushed and are at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Chief A. J. Land of the Columbus, Ga., fire department has handed in his resignation to the city commissioners. No appointment has yet been made.
