RECENT APPOINTMENTS IN NEW YORK.

Fire Commissioner Hayes has made the following appointments in the fire department of New York: Deputy fire commissioner for Brooklyn and Queens boroughs, William A. Doyle, leader of the Seventh assembly district of Brooklyn; secretary to the commissioner. Albert M. Downes. Deputy Commissioner Doyle is a member of the firm of Hattin & Doyle, and is widely and favorably known in insurance circles. Commissioner John T. Oakley, of the department of water supply, gas and electricity, has also made appointments as follows: Deputy commissioner for Manhattan, Frank J. Goodwin; second deputy commissioner, Thomas F. Byrnes, for Brooklyn; Thomas H. O’Neil, leader in the annexed district, deputy commissioner for the Bronx; Edward J. Miller, deputy commissioner for Richmond: Joseph W. Savage (a journalist), water register for Manhattan and the Bronx; William R. McGuire, Democratic leader of the Sixth Brooklyn district, water register for Brooklyn and Queens. The deputy commissioner for Queens has not yet been appointed. Fire Commissioner Hayes has announced that he will always be open for suggestions, as will also the chief of the department.
