Pulaski, Va., Considers New Water Project
There being some doubt expressed as to whether the project of water supply for Pulaski, Va., as voted at a recent bond election, can be put through within the bond issue limit, the council at a meeting on August 7 voted upon a new plan. The change was recommended by City Engineer Williamson and by Richard Masser, of the State Board of Health.
The new proposition is to construct a storage reservoir of 500,000 gallons upon one of the high hills back of the Pulaski Foundry by means of a main to be laid from the present main leading from the dam. In delivering this water into the reservoir it would be aerated, which process would, according to the engineer’s estimate, remove 70 to 80 per cent of the objectionable contents of the water. The claim is made that this aeration would greatly reduce the corrosion by the water to plumbing. Leading from the dam back into the old main will be another main carrying the water from the reservoir. Both the mains to and from the reservoir will be 12-inch the size of the present main. The engineer states that this storage will give a more uniform pressure in the distribution system and that the entire water supply can come through the reservoir as it will fill up during nights. The present daily consumption is about 700,000 gallons.
