Profits of the Emporia Waterworks.
At Emporia, Kan., according to the annual report of Superintendent H. S. Alexander, the waterworks made a profit of $17,573.72 during the year ending April 1. The earnings of the plant were $27,970.15, of which amount $8.189.83 was collected from the Santa Fe railroad. $15,869.06 from consumers at flat rates, and the remainder, $3,911.26. is chargeable to the city for water furnished for fires and for flushing sewers. Three items cover the running expenses of the waterworks department: $5,001.38 for salaries and labor; $3,282.20 for coal: $2,112.85 for repairs and supplies, making a total of $10,39643.
The new reservoir that Baltimore is about to build will have a capacity of 225,000,000 gal.
