PRIMITIVE!

This sounds rather primeval, coming from Lewistown, Mont.: “The following signals for use with the new fire bell have been arranged by the department. For curfew—three taps; for meetings of department—three taps, pause, two taps; for fires— sharp, quick, full strokes. After ringing thus for several seconds, pause and give one, two, or three taps, according to which ward the fire is situated in, the number of taps being the number of the ward; then, after short pause, continue sharp ringing.”
