He carried her to the roof in an exhausted condition. Keenan assisted Julia Roach, aged seventy years* from the fourth floor to the roof. Both women were very feeble. Keenan lowered himself down a peaked roof of an adjoining building to the cornice of the same, which is about six feet lower than the building on fire. With the assistance of McGowan the above named persons were passed in through the attic window to a place of safety, this being the only means of escape. The smoke and flames were at this time issuing from the front and back windows of the first floor.
