Perth Amboy Increases Rates
The Board of Water Commissioners of Perth Amboy, N. J., has established new rates to consumers, making an increase of two cents a thousand gallons over the lowest rates now in force. Financial reports have shown that the income from water rents has not been sufficient to allow the board to carry on any improvements without the issuance of notes in order to secure the necessary money. It is expected that the present rates will make it possible to secure a surplus with which extension work may be carried out. The new rates will go into effect October 1 of this year.
The minimum rate which may now be secured will be allowed concerns consuming 500,000 gallons or more a day. Such concerns will be sold water at the rate of nine cents per thousand gallons. This is an increase of two cents per thousand gallons over the former rate, which was seven cents.
