No More Frozen Hydrants.

Some time since the Fire Commissioners adopted a resolution (with a view of preventing the fire hydrants from being frozen) providing for pumps to be used by all engine companies in drawing off the water from the pipes of the hydrants after they had been used for fire purposes. There being more or less water remaining in the pipes above the *' cut off valve," after the same had been used, it was feared that it might be congealed, and in a case of its use being required, no water could be obtained without first thawing out the pipes; but this necessity is obviated now by the use of these pumps which draw off all the water from the pipe above the cut-off, and hence there remains no water to freeze and the hydrant remains ready for immediate use when required. In the repair shop of the hire | Department, eighty of these pumps are now being manufactured, and it is now believed that in a few days the whole department will be supplied with them. Similar pumps should be supplied to every department in the country that is troubled with frozen hydrun's. They are simple and inexpensive. ;
