No member of the uniformed force shall enter a place conducted for the sale of liquor, except in the performance Of duty. No member may smoke in any public conveyance, while wearing the regulation uniform. No member of the force may assign his pay without permission of the commissioners, or refuse to pay his debts. No member shall leave his fire station for a distance of more than 400 feet while on duty, unless he is on department business. Persons whose presence is not desirable shall not be allowed in fire stations. This includes intoxicated persons. No information relative to the business of the department may be furnished to outsiders except as authorized by the Fire Commission or the chief. No compensation, reward or consideration from private sources shall be solicited, or, without the permission of the commission or chief, accepted by any member for services performed in line of duty. Each company must keep a service record book concerning fires, the time at which each member leaves or returns to quarters, the reasons for his absence and by whose permission he left, the time at which any member of the commission, the chief, or any other officer, other than a company officer, visited quarters. This rule entails a large amount of bookkeeping and men have been assigned to keep the records at various watches. It is a lively job at certain hours of the day at headquarters. While on duty and wearing the regulation uniform members of the department may not occupy seats in street cars to the exclusion of persons who have paid their fares. Except by special permission of the commission or chief no contribution may be taken up in the department. The commanding officer may at his discretion grant members on every alternate. Sunday leave of absence not to exceed two hours. This time must either be passed at divine worship or with the members’ families. The captain of each company shall see that no member of his company remains in bed after 7 o’clock, except in case of illness, loss of sleep on fire duty or on watches.
