NEW FIRE ENGINE HOUSE AT LAWRENCE, MASS.

NEW FIRE ENGINE HOUSE AT LAWRENCE, MASS.

[Specially written for Finn AND WATER.]

THE new Ward Four engine house at Lawrence, Mass.—an illustration of which is given herewith—is in every way different from the other fire stations, and from an architectural standpoint has no equal in the city. In style it is colonial. Its walls are laid up with red pressed bricks in red mortar, while all the stone trimmings are of pure white marble, as also are the cornices, which are well worked up, being beautifully treated with consoles and dentil work. The roofs are slated with black slates from Monson, Me., quarries. Noticeable features of the exterior are the doors and windows, the glass being cut up into geometrical designs which give character to the building.
