The New England Water Works Association will hold its thirty-second annual convention at the Hotel Walton, Philadelphia, on September 10, 11 and 12. The program tor the morning session, of the first day includes an address ot welcome by Mayor Blankenburg, a business meeting anti the following papers: "Notes on Reduction of Waste ot Water in New York City,” by William W. Brush, deputy chief engineer, department of water supply, gas and electricity, New York City; "Effect of the Condition of Meters on Revenue,” by A. W. Cuddeback, engineer and super.ntendent, Passaic Water Company, Paterson, N. J. At the afternoon session Hiram A. Miller, consulting engineer, of Boston, will deliver a paper entitled "Additional Water Supply for the City of Pittsfield, Mass.” The report of the committee on water consumption and statist.es relating thereto, which was presented at the March meeting of the association by Leonard Metcalf, chairman, will .be discussed. The committee on low yields of catchment areas in New England will be presented by Frederic P. Stearns, chairman. The papers for the evening session will be "Outline of the W’ater Supply of Philadelphia,” by Carleton E. Davis, chief engineer, bureau of water, Philadelphia; “Torresdale Filter Plant Methods and Results from 1907 to Date,” by Francis D. West, chem.st in charge, Torresdale Laboratory; “Mortality Rates of Philadelphia in Relation to the Water Supply,” by John A. Vogelson, chief, bureau of health, Philadelphia. On the morning of the second day the following papers will be read: "Methods of Locating Leaks in Water Mains,” by F. J. Hoxie, engineer and spec.al inspector, Associated Factory Mutual Fire Insurance Companies, Boston; “Loss of Head in Bends,” by Weston E. Fuller, consulting engineer, New York. There will be a discussion of the paper on “Decarbonation of Water,” presented by Prof. George C. Whipple at the March meeting of the association and published in abstract on page 213 of this issue. The committees on standard specifications for cast-iron pipe and standard specifications for hydrants will present progress reports as well as the committee to look after legislation pertaining to conservation. There will be no afternoon session on Sept. 11. In the evening Walter E. Spear, department engineer, board of water supply, New York City, will read a paper entitled “The City Tunnel and Conduits of the Catskill Aqueduct.” Friday, the last lay, will he devoted to an excursion on the Delaware River to Philadelphia’s Torresdale filtration plant and pumping station.
