New Chief of Peabody, Mass.
William C. Mahoney, recently appointed the first permanent chief of the Peabody, Mass., fire department, under a new ordinance reorganizing the department, assumed his new duties June 1, at the Central fire station. A large number of floral bouquets, gifts of his friends, were sent to fire headquarters on the occasion. Chief Mahoney also received a gold watch and chain from one of his friends who wishes him well in his new undertaking. He has appointed Daniel J. Hannon as deputy chief.
Chief Mahoney will make a comprehensive study of the department, but does not contemplate making any radical changes as yet, although he has a number of things in mind that he believes will assist in putting the fire department on a more efficient basis.
