N. Y. FIRE BOARD ABOLISHES OFFICES.
The fire commissioners of New York have abolished the office of assistant secretary, paying a salary of $2,500 a year, and a clerkship of $1,500 a year, the duties of the offices be performed by two clerks at a salary $1,500 each. Chief of Battalion Joseph Shea has been sent back to duty from doing work at the training stables at $3,300 a year. The place of foreman of laborers has likewise been done away with, and a foreman and deputy foreman of stables appointed.
