Moving Picture Hazard.

Moving Picture Hazard.

Unusual interest is taken in the fire on the night of June 30, in the Security building, Chicago, it being the first serious loss for some time in downtown fireproof buildings, while the heavy loss on moving-picture films without any insurance was also notable. The loss of the American Film Service company, in whose quarters the fire originated, was $150,000, and it is understood that they carried no insurance because of dissatisfaction with the $1.10 rate made by the new schedule applying to film hazards.

Under the schedule charges are made for variations from the standard required, which calls for all films to be in metal boxes and stored in a standard vault, which in that building meant with the walls at least 8 in. thick. Additional charges were imposed for rewinding and repairing for exhibition machines, lack of standard cut-offs, etc.
