The need for larger amounts of water delivered over greater distances will require a complete reappraisal of our thinking in this important phase of fire fighting. For too long a time there has been too little effort devoted to the development of the necessary equipment and operational procedures.
Basically, the secret of moving greater amounts of water is to make it easier for the water to move, usually by employing larger size waterways. This fact has long been recognized by the fire services of the Old World but has been slow to catch on in the United States.
