Motor Apparatus at Cohoes
Chief T. C. Collins, of the Cohoes, N. Y.. fire department, reports that the cost of maintaining and operating the four pieces of motor apparatus placed in service February 1, 1915, was $311.14 for the year ending February 29, 1916, including gasoline, oil, grease and repairs The four pieces of apparatus include a triple combination pumping engine with an 800-gallon pumping capacity, a 4-wheel tractor attached to a 75-foot aerial ladder truck, a 2-wheeled tractor attached to a second size Meropolitan steamer, and a combination chemical and hose wagon. Twelve horses were displaced by the motor apparatus and Chief Collins estimates that a saving of $2,973.86 per year has been effected in the upkeep of the department, the approximate cost per horse per day being 75 cents, or $9 for the twelve, or $3 285 for the year.
