Monthly Report of District of Columbia
A report of the transactions of the Fire Marshal’s Office for the month of January, show that during the month 207 alarms of fire were received, a decrease of six as compared with the preceding month. Of the alarms received 123 were box and 84 locals or telephone calls. Of the box alarms received 34 were false and of the local alarms three were false. The loss caused by the 123 box alarms is estimated at $21,450. The loss caused by the 84 locals or telephone calls is estimated at $5,790. The total estimated loss is $27,240. This is a decrease of $41,928 as compared with the loss for the preceding month and a decrease of $105,305 as compared with the loss for the same month last year, January, 1918. During the month not one fire occurred which necessitated the sounding of an additional alarm and eight fires occurred where the loss for each exceeded $1,000.
