The official souvenir programme of the New York Columbian Celebration, gotten up and sold by the Brentanos’, by official authorization, is a handsomely illustrated pamphlet which will be saved by the hundreds of thousands of purchasers who witnessed the Columbian pageants and also by those who were unfortunate in not viewing the processions and illuminations and were glad to secure a handsome souvenir of the celebration as the next best thing. The sale of the numberless thousands of seats which was exclusively handled by the Messrs. Brentano for the city was a great undertaking, and the able manner with which they accomplished the task reflects great credit upon them.
Salem, Mass., has ordered a Babcock Aerial Truck after inspecting the Babcock at Lowell on Saturday at the invitation of Agent A. H. Spear, and also at Providence. At both places the most thorough trials were given for the benefit of the committee. At Lowell the Babcock truck, beside the regular movements, was used as a water tower, having three lines of hose and eight men on the ladder standing straight in the air, and with 165 pounds water pressure the ladder showed not the slightest weakness or vibration, a fact which plainly impressed the visiting committee, and when the bids were opened, the contract was awarded to S. F. Hayward & Co. by a vote of 6 to 2.
